Patty's Playlist #3

(Patty's oversized snack for whenever he's playing golf with oversized balls. That didn't come out right)

Patty Fun-Fact: Patty doesn't take pranks lightly. Especially if they involve shaving cream. (See Below)

Anyway, like the others before it, today's playlist has some variety. Though the first song says its Madonna & Lil Wayne, I read somewhere that this version is in fact a demo version with a "stand in" for Madonna. They used it to see what the song would sound like with Lil Wayne in it. I personally like this version more than the original and think this girl's voice sounds better. Patty loves his Calvin Harris and the second track is a remix of one of his favorite songs. The last three are from British artists, Ellie Goulding and Tinchy Stryder. Ellie Goulding has a great voice and Chiddy Bang sampled one of her songs for their version of "Under the Sheets". The Tinchy Stryder tracks are a little more upbeat.

Kings of Leon and TV on the Radio

You know, if you pay attention to Entourage's soundtrack, you can end up finding a ton of good music. They've always had a pretty good ear for up and coming music. I'll even venture to say that some artists owe their fame to whoever it was that decided to play one of their songs on an Entourage episode. Anyway, here's a couple of tracks I ended up finding out about thanks to the show. I don't listen to Kings of Leon that much, but I really like this remix (you have to let the beat pick up a little). And the second is definitely a much more mellow remix.

Miami Horror

I really like Miami Horror. They're the brains behind the beat for Mike Posner's "You Don't Have to Leave", which I posted a long, long time ago. Anyway, they've got a vibe going that works really good for them. Kinda reminds me of vintage 80's miami.

Hoodie Allen

Found a few of these guys' tracks today. They've got some creative lyrics and good execution on their remixes. The first is a remix of Mike Posner's "Evil Woman".  They remind me a little bit of Chiddy Bang. Check them out.

Early 90's Rap

There's something about listening to early 90's rap that makes you feel a bit nostalgic. I watched The Wackness a year ago around this time, and I must admit I liked it a lot. The soundtrack was definitely one of the big reasons I liked it so much. I suggest you guys watch it if you haven't seen it (its got sex, drugs, and rap...who doesn't like that?). Anywho, here's a few songs from the soundtrack.

Brooklyn Girls

One of my favorite songs.

Gucci Mane + Die Antwoord

A couple of my friends showed me this video a while back. It was strange and kinda weirded me out mostly because I don't usually enjoy things that I don't understand. So for example, when a dude starts rapping in Afrikaans, 9 times out of 10 I'll probably click on the "dislike" button if there was one. Nevertheless, I was taught to be more tolerant and open minded than that. Anyway, Die Antwoord is a group from South Africa, and surely you know who Gucci Mane is. I found this mashup of their two songs "Enter the Ninja" and "Lemonade" and thought it was executed pretty well. The second is another remix of "Lemonade" and it took me a couple of listens to start liking it.

BadNraD

I just got a song in my inbox from producer / dj BadNraD from Minneapolis. He's got an interesting style of music that varies from song to song, as he self-describes his tracks as an amalgamation of "funky basslines...catchy hooks...and booty shakin' rhythms that melt into a pool of bubbly bodaciousness..." The tune he sent me is a free download and its heavy on the synthesized vocals and has a nice upbeat and relaxed feel to it. When I listen to it I like to imagine a beach, beers, friends (all of which have provided proper identification proving they are 21) and maybe an inflatable toy of some sort. Anyway, check it out for yourself and head over to his website if you're interested.

The Twelves

Here's a set from one of my favorite producers / dj's / artists. The Twelves are from Brazil, and though they do have some of their own tracks, they're better known for their remixes. The first three are probably my favorite remixes by them, and the last two tracks are starting to grow on me. DEFINITELY listen to these songs especially if you like your music with some spunk.

P.S. The first two tracks' original artists are a group called the Black Kids, and the first song's full name is "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You".

MashMaticians

Just browsing through a few sites today, and I ended up finding a few mashups by a group that calls itself the MashMaticians. The first mashup I genuinely liked, the second literally made me laugh out loud or lol, and the third reminded me of middle school. I was impressed by the production of all the tracks and theyre all definitely worth a quick listen.

Update: I didn't realize it at first, but there's something wildly inappropriate yet impressive at the same time of mashing lyrics like "shoobie doo wop and scooby snacks / I met a fly girl and I cant relax" with "she's a super freak / the freak of the week / i give her something to f*#k she gives me somethin to eat / its never enough / she likes it rough / we keep it going till we switch positions"....i apologize to anyone who feels like whatever remains of their middle school innocence from listening to LFO has been violently stripped away by this mashup. Nevertheless, you gotta admit the tune's pretty catchy.

KiD CuDi and Creepy Videos

The video for "All Summer" (which features Cudi, Rostam Batmanglij from Vampire Weekend, and Bethany Cosentino from Best Coast) was released recently, and it's ridiculously creepy. Nevertheless, its Cudi and people like him, so here's the video and the song if you wanna download it.

Digitalism

Digitalism is a duo from Germany who don't have that many singles released in the US, but every now and then one of their remixes will show up. Anyway, I've got some fond memories of shenanigans from college that are brought about by this song, making it a personal favorite of mine. Here it is for those who don't have it.

UPular

If you were to give me an animated movie for a present, and that movie was "Up", you'd make me a very happy person. If you had to get something else, then I'd probably say "Monsters, Inc.". Anyway, Pogo is a talented Australian DJ and a long time ago came out with an incredible song made out of sound clips from "Up". I love the song but I think the video is even better. Here's both.

The Dean's List + Invigilators

Two new tracks that you'll definitely enjoy. The first is a remix of "Breakeven" by a group called The Dean's List. They're a very talented group out of Boston, and you can check out their website to download other tracks produced by them. The second features one of the rappers from The Dean's List in a collaboration with the Invigilators. You can also check out their site to download a few other tracks.

Rapdragons, Dubstep, and Musicfromthecradle

The Rapdragons are a pretty talented duo from Baltimore. They've produced a couple of mixtapes and you can download them for free over at their website. The first song has some catchy lyrics and a very relaxed beat. The other posts are going to be a little different. Dubstep is a relatively new genre of music that could be described as electronic with some heavy bass lines and a few samples here and there. I'm really only posting these for a couple of my friends from school who are really into the dubstep scene. Check it out if you want, but I'm just letting you know it might be a bit different than everything else you've heard on here. Speaking of friends, they also have their own blog and for the sake of friendship we've decided to collaborate a bit. Make sure you head over and check out our sister blog Music From the Cradle.

Some more VodkandMilk

Another VodkandMilk mashup. This one's a little aggressive, but I kinda liked how they put the "Halloween" theme song into a mashup with Tupac and Bone Thugs n Harmony.

Patty's Playlist #2

Patty tends to make things look smaller than they really are due to his size. We used our friend Nelly as a scale to show how Patty rarely finds appliances that fit him appropriately.

Patty fun-fact: Patty was the original inspiration for the nickname Owen Wilson's character in "Night at the Museum" uses for Ben Stiller's character (Gigantor).

Mostly remixes in this edition of Patty's Playlist. My favorites are A-Trak's remix of "Gone" by Donnis, The Killers remix, and the Sky Ferreira song is starting to grow on me. The Hood Internet mashup of Radiohead and Eve is a must listen if you like Radiohead / laid back rap tracks.

Luigi's Last Stand

I don't even know how to explain this one. It's short but worth listening to.

Mochi Beats X 2

I realized I just posted the Mochi Beats album, but here are two separate tracks that he released after the album. I've already posted "California Nightlife" but I have a feeling some people missed it and it's definitely worth getting.

California Nightlife (Katy Perry + Cyndi Lauper + Huey + Colby Odonis + Laidback Luke) by mochi beats

Mochi Beats Album

There's a good chance you've heard about mashup artists like E-603 or (probably more likely) GirlTalk (pictured above). They tend to release albums where listening to the tracks continuously is integral to the cohesion of the album itself (aka theyre perfect for a powerhour mix). Yeah sometimes you can listen to tracks individually, but they tend to awkwardly get cut-off and they sound as though a part of the track were missing. Well, Mochi Beats is another mashup artist who I've been posting about recently. He released his debut self titled album in May, which you can get here for free and you can choose whether you want to download the album as a single continuous track (and if you want to do that you could also just download it from the player below), or a bunch of individual tracks. Here's the album in its entirety and a few excerpts which I really liked.

Vodka & Milk

Vodka&Milk is a group based out of LA. They like to make remixes and other cool shenanigans. That's all I know about them. Oh they also have a facebook group. Anyway, these remixes might be a bit too weird for some people, but those who like electronic sounding remixes will like these. Definitely check out the first song though.

Another K'naan Mashup

This summer there's been no shortage of K'naan's "Wavin' Flag" remixes....and here's another. This one uses a bit of Kings of Leon, Whitney Houston, Counting Crows, and a few others.

Aloe Blacc

A few people have been asking about the original song behind the Biggie and the Wale tracks I've posted. Well the guy's name is Aloe Blacc and he's the guy behind the theme song for the show "How To Make It In America". I've attached the original song and two other remixes. I'm sure you guys are tired of the same song getting remixed, but whoever did these last two did a pretty good job on them (especially the Wu-Tang Clan one).

Patty's Playlist #1

Every now and then we'll be dedicating a set-list to everyone's favorite will smith bizarro. Additionally, we will also post some fun facts or personal anecdotes about our favorite giant.

Patty Fun-Fact - If you've spent the night out with Patty, have failed to keep your alcohol consumption to a moderate level, and will be sharing close-quarters in order to sleep later that night, do NOT allow the room temperature to fluctuate especially if the room gets warmer. Excessive heat may induce Patty to vomit.

Everywhere.

In his sleep.

And no, these incidents were not instances of alcohol poisoning.

Today's playlist contains a few mashups and a Kid Cudi / Kanye song which is presumably from Cudi's follow-up album. The first two sample the same Vampire Weekend song, and I think they're both great. The Wale track samples the same song from the Biggie song I posted a while ago, and once it picks up it gets a little better. I'm just as bad as anyone else in losing interest quickly if a song doesn't pick up right away, but do yourselves a favor and definitely listen to the first four songs. The rest are all good too, but with a few of them you might have to fast forward a bit for them to pick up. Enjoy

Mark Ronson

Mark Ronson is a talented music producer / DJ from NYC. You may have heard some of his remixes of bands like Miike Snow and collaborations with Wale, Amy Winehouse, etc. Here's the video for his song "Bang Bang Bang" (which clearly makes fun of Japanese superhero tv series that we all grew up with, like the power rangers) and the song as well.

Dr. Hollywood

One of my best friends closely resembles a giant version of Will Smith and / or Tiger Woods. He enjoys walking around playgrounds in his boxers as well as peeing in bottles instead of using the bathroom. He actually has a pretty good taste in music and every once in a while sends me a bumpin tune if he's not too busy doing whatever giants do on their free time. He sent me the first song about a year ago and it quickly became one of my favorite songs. The second is another Dr Hollywood song that I ended up randomly finding and liking as well.

There's definitely no shortage of Drake remixes out there, but this is by far one of my favorites.

Miike Snow

Some may think Miike Snow is one person when they're actually a group of three music producers / writers from Sweden. People really like remixing their songs, so they've gotten pretty popular the last couple of years. Here's their first hit single if you didn't already have it.

John Butler Trio

John Butler is a crazy talented guitarist from Australia who started coming on to the scene about 5 years ago. I've included a couple of my favorite songs, and if you like them I strongly encourage you to listen to his album "Sunrise Over Sea".
