Professor Green

I'm not completely sure where Professor Green is from but if you're really that interested I'm sure you can find it with a quick google search. Anyway, one thing I do know about him is that this song became a quick hit single in the BBC charts. So what happens when you have a BBC hit single? Well apparently you get stabbed in the neck by a broken bottle. Again, I'm not sure what exactly happened but the internet was invented for people who love to embellish and spin allegations and stories. Here's my take on what happened: the incident was spurred by what I assume was some senseless bar fight where someone probably questioned his ability to write rhymes in iambic pentameter. Surely Professor Green being the educated hip hop artist that he is (since that's probably what he intended to convey by choosing to use his title of "Professor" as part of his alias) was offended by the challenge. Resorting to strategic insulting techniques used by many of his colleagues, he proceeded to call the individual a "low-class prostitute" which is intelligent-speak for "hoe". Angry at the elitist terminology used upon him, the challenger broke a bottle and ninja threw it at Professor Green, who was unable to dodge it since he is a Professor and not a Sensei. Anyway, here's his hit single which samples the INXS hit "Need You Tonight".

Some More Wale

Its very difficult to choose a favorite Wale song. Here's a few other Wale tracks that I really enjoy.

Wale ft. K'Naan - TV In The Radio by gregzinho

Wale - Rude Boy by Hypetrak

Wale - Chillin Ft. Lady Gaga (The Knocks Remix) by The Knocks

Yes Giantess

These two songs were brought to my attention by one of my very good friends who loves music as much as he loves the stock market. Check them out.

Donnis + SPEAK

A couple of up and coming rappers who are bringing some new flavor to the scene. SPEAK just recently came out with a mixtape which you can download here.

Donnis "Gone" by TheEargasm

Ooh Stylish - SPEAK by MusicHatch

Mickey Avalon

This guy's got a crazy history. He's your typical male prostitute turned into a successful rap artist. He's a bit lewd and vulgar, but what prostitute-turned-rap-star isn't? Here's one of my favorite tracks by him which you might recognize from The Hangover.

Mickey Avalon (Dirt Nasty. Andre Legacy) - What do you say Hangover soundtrack by Shitty Daze

Cisco Adler

Cisco Adler has recently come out with a mixtape of his own, featuring some pretty big names like Mickey Avalon and Shwayze. You might know him from a few of Shwayze's songs including Corona and Lime, Get U Home, and Buzzin'. Anyway, the mixtape is pretty good and its got a nice laid back summer feel to it. You can preview/download it here. Here's a few of my favorites.

Wale

I'm a huge Wale fan. The guy's one of the more talented rappers out there. Some people might recognize him from his collaboration with Lady Gaga, and even though that song's decent, I don't think its one of his better tracks. Every time I listen to one of his songs I always end up hearing something new. He's incredibly creative with his raps and he's also phenomenal at dropping subtle references with a great sense of humor. You have to listen carefully to his lyrics to really appreciate what he's doing. Anyway here's a few of my favorites.

Juicy Dollars

Here's a remix of Biggie's Juicy. It's a mashup with the theme song for a show called How To Make It In America which according to one of my good friends, let's call him Donatello, it's actually a very good show. If the show's as good as this mashup, I think I may add it on my lists of shows to watch over the summer.

K'naan

K'naan's Wavin' Flag has become the anthem of the World Cup this year. There's a new coca-cola commercial that replicates some of the memorable celebrations of the last two decades. Its a great commercial (gotta love the guy at :40 seconds), and it also remixes K'naan's original song into a new "celebration" remix. I also added a Drake mashup with Wavin' Flag that sounds a bit decent.

Tiesto + Tegan & Sara

This song will get stuck in your head easily. It's a bit old now, but the video is great too. Here it is for those who haven't seen the video or don't have the song.

Beastie Boys Remixes

You either end up loving or hating the Beastie Boys. No one really just casually listens to them. Here's a couple of remixes that hopefully changes that. The first one is a mashup with Primal Scream (one of my favorite mashups) and the other is a Matt&Kim mashup by the Hood Internet.

Cool Katz + PANTyRAID

The Cool Catz are an up and coming group from LA. PANTyRAID is comprised of two dudes who make ridiculous tracks...kinda remind me of the Glitch Mob. They're both very good. Do yourselves a favor and download these songs. I've attached a Cool Catz song, a Ratatat remix of a Cool Catz song, a collaboration between the Cool Catz and PANTyRAID, and finally the original PANTyRAID mix.

New Releases

New Jay-Z track featuring Swizz Beatz, another track featuring BoB in a collaboration with Janelle Monae, a new Drake song produced by Kanye, and finally a Killer Mike track. The last artist is relatively unknown, but this track is pretty laid back but still has that energy that makes it fun to listen to. Reminds me a little of Outkast.

Note - I haven't found some of these tracks so that you guys can download them, but as soon as I do I'll post it up.

Theophilus London

Theophilus London is a NYC based rapper who likes to mix hip hop with some electronic. He does a good job of bringing a different take on the electro-hiphop genre. Pretty good if I may say so myself. I Want You is his most recent mixtape. Take a listen and download whichever songs you'd like (remember all you gotta do is find the arrow pointing down on the right side bar of the music player). Oh yeah and I also added one of his more popular tracks from a previous mixtape. These were a few of my favorites:

Nifty

Nifty is a rapper from the Bay Area who came onto the scene a couple of years ago. He hasn't made it big yet, but the kid's got potential. Here's a couple of tracks for you to listen / download.

Nifty by MusicHatch

Fire

If you're looking for some gritty rap tracks, you'll find just that in the ones posted here. The first is a remix by L.A. based rapper SPEAK!, as he revamps a Sleigh Bells song from their new album Treats. The second is a Glitch Mob remix of the Evil Nine song "All The Cash". The last two are Biggie remixes. You are required to turn up the volume in order to appreciate how much these songs bump.

Xaphoon Jones

Xaphoon Jones is the producer behind Chiddy Bang's tracks. He came out with his own mixtape recently which you can get right here. Here's a few of my favorites off the mixtape. Check 'em out.

Xaphoon Jones - Fresh Like Us (Xaphoon Jones Remix Feat. Theodore Grams) by freshlikeus

Xaphoon Jones - Swimming In The Sky (Passion Pit, B.I.G., Beyonce) by freshlikeus

Xaphoon Jones - I Wanna Know Now (Bob Marley Vs MGMT) by Dewse

Chiddy Bang

Surely you've heard of Chiddy Bang by now. A little over a month ago they came out with a follow up mixtape to their debut "The Swelly Express". Here is the mini-mixtape for you to listen before you head over to their website to download it. Definitely listen to Under the Sheets, Stylo, and Pass Out, but the entire mixtape is well-worth the download.

Chiddy Bang - Air Swelly (Mixtape) by Yoland

Passion Pit

A couple of Passion Pit remixes. I'm not entirely sold on the Little Secrets remix, but I love the original and its not one of those remixes that butchers up the original. The second track is from The Hood Internet that mixes Sleepyhead and Back That Ass Up.

Two Fresh, One Old

Christian U is yet another student at Duke, aspiring to be a music producer. He brings a fresh take to "Overnight Celebrity". You can check him out at his facebook page or look him up on iTunes U at Duke University's site. I also found this remix of Wiz Khalifa's "Say Yeah" mashed-up with Deadmau5's "I Remember". A bit different, but if you like Deadmau5 you might like this one. Last song is Khalifa's "The Thrill" feat. Empire of the Sun for those of you who don't have it.

Hangover

One of my teammates played this song in the locker room one day after practice and it goes without saying that it caught us all off-guard. I felt the need to put this up for one of my friends, who on a weekend trip to Atlantic City somehow managed to only sleep for about 3 hours. You know who you are.

edIT

edIT is one of the members of the Glitch Mob. I'm a big fan of his and the different tracks he's come out with. Here's a couple of samples. The first doesn't have any vocals but it bumps. The second is edIT's remix of one of Wale's tracks. Most of the time I think Wale's tracks are fine they way they are, but I think edIT definitely takes this one up a notch.

EdIT - Battling Go-Go Yubari In Downtown L.A. by salacioussound

Freaxxx f. Wale (Scratches by DJ AM) by MikeyVuitton

The Glitch Mob

The Glitch Mob is a group of DJ's who've made a name for themselves by mixing up tracks with their signature "glitch" noises and scratches. The first track is a remix of Lil Wayne's "Lollipop". The second track kinda makes me feel like I should be driving a getaway car while listening to this song. I will note that it doesn't have any vocals, but it's still pretty DOPE.

Lollipop (Nasty Ways Remix)--Lil Wayne by purpulus

The Glitch Mob - Drive It Like You Stole It by edIT

The Hood Internet

The Hood Internet has some great mashups, but with them its usually a hit or miss. For every good song they'll put out, they'll have five other ones you won't like, so it definitely gets a bit frustrating to sort through their archives until you find those gems. Here's a few that I would recommend to anyone.

Vampire Weekend is kinda popular

Aside from the popularity they've built up by themselves, other artists are beginning to include Vampire Weekend in their own tracks as well. BoB does it in The Kids and KiD CuDi does it with Cudderisback (sampling Ottoman).

Kanye Traxx

A couple of different Kanye remixes. A-Trak is behind the first song, which is Get Em High mashed-up with a song called Heartbeats by the Knife. He's helped produce many of Kanye's tracks, and he also happens to be David Macklovitch's (Chromeo's guitarist/lead vocals) brother. The second is a new track featuring Slum Village.

Kid Cudi + Christian Bale

If you didn't know, Christian Bale once threw a tantrum on the set of one of his movies. He had no idea he was being recorded at the time. This new Cudi song samples some of that tantrum.

Mike Posner + Miami Horror + Eric Holljes

Mike Posner is starting to make it big on the music scene. The kid from Duke is pretty talented, but few people realize how much he actually samples from other artists. For example, Posner's "You Don't Have to Leave" samples Miami Horror's "Sometimes". I've also included what is apparently the other half behind Posner's"Cooler Than Me". Eric Holljes is another up and coming artist from Duke, and word is he helped Posner produce the single. Enjoy.

KELLMAN

We're college students. Actually we've graduated but we choose to block that out of our memories. We've got short attention spans especially when it comes to music. We like music that keeps us listening from the beginning to end. We also have friends who need a way to keep their music library updated. Having said that, here's our first gift to you (kellman) because I know you'll like this song.
